Cheap, convenient tsukemen
I love a good tsukemen, broth served separately from ramen noodles. So when I was hungry from a stroll through Chiyoda Ward, and spotted this tsukemen shop, I thought I was saved. Problem 1 - I’m a lefty so I prefer to wait for a seat at the counter where I won’t bump fellow diners. The main counter was pretty full. Problem 2 - the staff don’t all speak Japanese fluently. So when I explained I’m left handed and would prefer to wait for a suitable spot, the shop girl couldn’t understand me. It took a second try with the noodle chef. Poor girl. There is a second floor space with tables, so I got seated. I had the slightly spicy version. I was offered either hot or chilled noodles. There was lots of “gu”, chunks of pork, menma, and hard boiled egg. It was a bit oily, but flavorful. If you’re hungry for a light meal it’s pretty good.
