    Come here for Chinese food

I always find Ameya Yokocha really interesting. It is like a mini-Chinatown because quite a few of the shops are owned by Chinese and serve authentic Chinese food and selling authentic Chinese imported food. There is even an underground market that not everyone knows about. At the same time, you can also find a lot of cheap bags, T-shirts, suitcases being sold, all pointing towards being a tourist trap of sorts. AND, at the same time, you can find some really cheap seafood here, like 10 raw oysters for 1000yen, way cheaper than average. The mix of culture and how noisy/messy things are here makes it a unique spot that does not really feel like Japan, which is what makes this place exciting and unique.

    Always fun for a wander

There are so many places to shop in the Ueno area, but one place not to miss is Ameya Yokocho. I love wandering through here any time I'm in the Ueno area, because it's just so packed full of character. There are numerous stores and places to grab a bite to eat, and I find the prices of goods are pretty reasonable in comparison to other places in the city. Even if you don't buy a thing, I think it's still a fun place to stroll around. Also, hopefully it goes without saying but the photo is pre-COVID.
