    Arisugawa Park in Autumn

This park has many tall trees and water spilling down hillsides, which makes it a great relief from busy and dense Hiroo nearby. The park’s landscape and visitors are a surprise. A deep ravine flows to a pond where elderly gentlemen cast lines to catch fish. The rivulet that runs from a high waterfall is not cordoned off, so children can play about floating sticks in the shallow water. In late November and early December! the wide lookout with cherry trees and wisteria trellises gets covered ankle-deep in leaves. Many adults were shuffling through the piles of gold.

Park thick with foliage in central Tokyo

Arisugawa-no-miya Memorial Park is a nice little treat in central Tokyo. You'll find it about a a5-min walk from the Hiroo metro station (Hibiya Line). The park climbs up a little hill. At the bottom, the main entrance has some benches, toilets, a map, and information board. The main feature at this stage is a pond around which it's not unusual to see old blokes fishing. Paths climb up from the pond area and lead into dense areas of green that can really make you feel that you're in a natural wood. It's a really nice place to wander around and shut out the city. Some people also make use of the fairly steep paths as a jogging/training course (although not so much that it's an irritation). The paths eventually lead to a kind of recreational ground at the top. Here it seems to be OK to kick/throw a ball around with the kids. There's also a kid play area up here with the usual kind of swings, slide, and bars to play on. Arisugawa-no-miya Memorial Park also looks to be a bit of a bird-watching spot. There are information boards listing the kind of birds to look out for. I'm no expert though, so don't pay them much attention. If there's a downside to this park, it's that there are no grass areas where you can pitch up and get a picnic on the go. In fact, there are few places to sit here. It's more of a place that you would come to for a stroll. Located as it is in Hiroo, there are some nice cafes nearby, and there will be plenty of expats in the area, too. In summer this place sounds like the number 1 hang out spot for cicadas. It's super noisy!
