Delicious tantanmen ramen in a retro Shimokitazawa alleyway
On our search for a big, fulfilling lunch in Shimokitazawa, we were silently guided by the ramen gods towards Ten Temari. Nestled down a snug alleyway close to Shimokitazawa station we accidentally came upon Ten Temari after searching aimlessly for a big, cheap meal. It was an unusually cool summer's day and we were elated to find some outdoor seating in the breeze. We were promptly greeted by a kind staff member who helped us order from the vending machine outside; I opted for the sesame and pork ramen and my husband chose the meaty deep-fried chicken ramen. It was around 1pm and I think we may have been the first customers of the day. Our food came out in around 10 minutes, accompanied by some iced water, which I now know was in anticipation of the hot sweats that tantanmen was about to deliver. My broth was thick and spicy, and a little bit milky. The noodles were juicy and abundant, and the pork melted in my mouth. It was so delicious that I ate until I could physically eat no more. The sesame flavouring was an interesting addition which I would absolutely try again. We didn't stay long but we are looking forward to going back next. The retro vibe of the alleyway, the outdoor seating, the lovely staff and the fantastic food for a reasonable price. I highly recommend.
