Tips for a trip to Nagasaki/Fukuoka/Saga/Oita?

We're trying to head down to Kyushu for a little break later this year, and if you've been to any of the abovementioned prefectures before (or even live there!) I'd love to hear your suggestions for cool things to do and see - preferably the cool spots that guidebooks or online resources might not cover! Thanks in advance!

Transportation

Bus commuter pass?

I see people with a bus commuter pass and I'm wondering if there's any information online about this? (I can find a lot of information about the train tekken commuter passes.) I want to see the prices and if it's worth it for me to buy one. If it matters, I'm looking for Yokohama area ones... Keikyu bus or Kanachu bus. (or is there one for all companies?)

Any good tips for a Shimane visit?

I'm getting one of my New Year's Resolutions ticked off, and have a short trip planned to Shimane in late May. I'm going to visit Matsue, Izumo and Yasugi. Apart from the main to-do's there, does anyone have any experience with some off the beaten path spots? Cute cafes, interesting museums, anywhere you'd like to share?

Shinkansen ticket

Hallo, may I ask where it is the best to buy Shinkansen tickets? One for myself 54 years old (YAYKS) and one for my son , 21 years old studen. We are both Canadians living permanently in Norway. We want to fit in 7 days pass, that would cover Tokyo-Kyoto-Hiroshima-Fukuoka. thank you kindly. Is there any discount for students?

Trip to Miyazaki this summer. Any recommendations?

Heading to Miyazaki, Kyushu this summer (4 nights, staying in Aoshima). Any recommendations on places to eat would be much appreciated. Also, any sightseeing spots? The priority is surfing but we'll have a car and will still have time to travel around a bit. Cheers!

Nothing to see here. Check out the active questions below.

Where can I get the best foreign currency exchange rate?

I'm going on a trip abroad soon and I would like to bring some of the country's currency with me.... Anyone know where I can get the best deal? I know airports are probably the worst place to exchange. How about Daikokuya or the bank? Or do you have any secret spots you'd like to share? :)

What's your recommendation for the best (cheap) restaurant in Osaka?

I have family visiting Osaka and I'm in charge of choosing the eating establishments... I'm not necessarily looking for Osaka-specialty foods (kushikatsu, okonomiyaki, takoyaki, etc.) Just some typical Japanese shokudo-style restaurants that really stand out in your mind. Also, I don't eat red meat so no tonkatsu / yakiniku / etc. please! And preferably near the city center (Osaka/Umeda station or Namba)! Thank you :)

Eating Clean

Are there any dedicated plant-based eatery in and around the Fuchu/Chofu area? Not an establishment that 'also serves' but one that is exclusively plant-based. Found a lovely one in Hachioji but too far away for regular patronage.

A couple of days at Okinawa

Hello, everyone. I have been dreaming of going to Okinawa some day. I want to stay at a hotel for one or two nights, see and swim in a beautiful transparent sea with sand long beach. But unfortunately my dream never came true. I am told that Okinawa is super expensive and people usually book hotels, airline tickets and so on several months beforehand. I am not a rich person that's why I would like to travel econom level. Could anyone please give me some advice on going to Okinawa including some information about transport, hotels, beaches, food, souvenirs?

Best onsen town near Tokyo with a lot of snow

Looking for recommendations for a nice onsen town / resort near Tokyo where I can see plenty of snow. Planning to go in February. It would be an overnight stay. Also, if the town has a bit of atmosphere and places to eat other than the hotel / ryokan, that would be even better. Cheers! Maybe around 3 hrs one-way (without flying) would be the maximum travel time in this case.

Starbucks in Japan where you can get a seat, easily

I've probably mentioned this a lot before, here and there, but in the case of the Starbucks that I see going about me daily business in Japan, almost all of them tend to be packed. Not that I'm massive fan but I prefer Starbucks to some of the other coffee chains in Japan like a Dotour or Veloce. To this end I thought if anyone out there knows of, or from now spots, a Starbucks where you're almost guaranteed to get a seat, maybe we could drop them here and, well, have some sort of list that we can all refer to.

High quality Japanese restaurants in Tokyo

Looking for a classy Japanese restaurant that does set courses. The options seem so overwhelming and I usually don't go out for expensive Japanese food that I though I'd try and get some direct recommendations. Shinjuku, Shibuya, Daikanyama (south, southwest Tokyo station areas preferred). It's a bit of an occasion requiring of something traditional and sedate. Budget around 6000 yen a head. Cheers.

Solo dinner choices in Japan

I wanted to ask everyone what your 'go to' place is for eating dinner on your own in Japan. Recently, I've gotten into the habit of just going to a McDonalds when it comes to eating on my own. This is not out of fear of new experiences, foods, language, or being on my own. It's just a lazy habit I seem to have fallen into. I'm looking for some new ideas, besides cooking at home.
